1. Never spend more than 10 minutes making a powerpoint. The kids won't care, no matter how many hours you spent on it.
2. If you have to evacuate the school, grab the bag of candy before you go.

3. A teacher's instructions don't go in one ear and out the other. They bounce off an invisible shield and never even make contact.

No matter how "safe" you think your speech, they will find a way to relate what you say to sex. And they will giggle. 6. Also, be careful how you draw rockets and CO2 cars on the board. 7. Children, like dogs, can sense fear and hesitation. If you lack confidence, they will trample you like a bug.

11. Never underestimate the motivational power of a jolly rancher. Or tootsie roll.
12. Some kids will ask you if you hate teaching and/or them. Don't tell them the truth, unless the truth is family friendly.
13. You better have dang good reasons for EVERYTHING you do, because they want to know WHY.
14. One rule:

16. Calling the parents isn't that scary, and it REALLY helps.
17. Last, but not least:

Ha! It's about time you updated your blog! All good teaching tips, however beware of your candy usage--they start taking it for granted real fast. Ben particularly agreed with the one about how they turn everything into a sex joke and giggle.
Oh don't worry, I don't use candy much. Mostly I pull it out randomly if we had a good day or we had a crappy day that was my fault and the kids need a consolation prize. :)
